daydreamer's escapism

you mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.

Queen of Korean Hip Hop, Yoon Mi Rae praises CL!
Q. So far, it seems there isn’t anyone particularly outstanding except for T Yoon Mi Rae. This is partly because T Yoon Mi Rae is really exceptional, but also partly because there seems to be a lack of female rappers. I’m curious to know what you think could be the reason for this?
A. The hip hop culture all over the world has always been led by men. And (hip hop by nature) is quite manly. It doesn’t have to be, but it does give off that aura. But there are more female rappers than we think; legends like Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Lauryn Hill of the Fugees, Bahamadia, etc. Female rappers are also increasing in our country. I release more hip hop albums and songs and my concerts also revolve around hip hop, so maybe that’s why my image as a rapper is stronger. I was invited to 2NE1′s concert and attended the concerts on two nights. CL did extremely well. I’m not passing judgement on anyone, but could it be because it’s a genre that is not popular with the masses that there is very little chance for female rappers to have solo rap songs? To be honest, even for me, when I release a rap song, like this time, the company isn’t too welcoming of it as well. Haha! To all female rappers, fighting!

:/ It’s kind of sad that it’s hard even for the best female rapper in Korea to get a solo rap song without people getting all iffy about it. *sigh*
